Is Clean, Green & Blue Beauty still a thing?

As a society, we are impatient, constantly seeking immediate or instant results. In this time of environmental concern, consumers are now more focused on the holistic impact of what they consume. For example, we are waking up to the fact that the effects of natural remedies, although may in some cases take longer to be efficacious, can be equally results driven.

The beauty industry is at the forefront and heart of this awakening! Having said that, we are in the age of information overload! Having access to information is great but we tend to forget that there are experts that can help support and validate – people are now seeking this validation.  It is important to distinguish between ingredients you can use and not just what the internet and social media tells you.

We are starting to respect the different approaches to skincare, be it Medical, Natural or Aesthetic – take your pick. The approach to skincare is trying and finding the right thing for you. It is about finding that happy medium between science and nature.

The Beauty Industry is making steps in the right direction, but still has a long way to go but we firmly believe it will get there because Indie brands like Naturally Tribal Skincare finally have a voice in the industry and long may that reign. We are now seen as innovators and pioneers

At Naturally Tribal Skincare, we believe in the power of nature and pride ourselves in making products which say pure luxury but at the same time, remain Clean, Green and Blue. Is Clean beauty, Green Beauty and Blue Beauty still a thing we hear you ask?

These are terms that we believe in and live by and here’s what they mean to us:

Clean Beauty

Many beauty products contain ‘forever chemicals’, which can cause negative lasting effects on both your health and the environment. Some of these ingredients include parabens, oxybenzone, and formaldehyde, all of which can cause nasty side effects.

Clean beauty refers to beauty products which do not use any toxic ingredients. Clean doesn’t necessarily mean ‘natural’ as some beauty brands still use synthetic chemicals which are safe for consumers’ health and the environment. However, we use all natural ingredients which come directly from the earth, and do not contain any synthetic chemicals or nasties.

Clean beauty speaks to our end to end supply chain, how clean and ‘planet hugging’ we are through the journey from sourcing our ingredients to you purchasing a jar. This is a holistic approach that speaks to not only what our products are ‘free from’ but their impact on our planet as they make their journey to you.

Our ‘Source to Jar’ journey allows us to be transparent with our tribers, allowing traceability where possible so that our Tribers know exactly what they are putting on their skin.

Green Beauty

Green Beauty refers to products which are sourced, produced and packaged in an eco-friendly way.

Our main ingredient (Shea Butter) for example, is ethically sourced from the Kingdom of Essan in Nigeria, and then tested, manufactured and formulated in the UK.

From our sourcing to manufacturing journey, we have made a pledge, we promise not to take anything out of the earth that we don’t give back, which includes managing the waste that we generate and by using small batch production.

Our products are hand-poured into our beautiful UV Glass Jars, which preserves the product inside. Instead of using labels, we screen print onto our glass jars to save plastic, and then package using recyclable cardboard.

Whilst a lot of beauty brands are moving towards Green Beauty, a lot are guilty of greenwashing - a marketing strategy which involves using buzzwords to make their products seem more sustainable than they are. The key to avoid being fooled by this, is by checking how transparent a brand is about their sustainability journey, and by checking their certifications.

As a Green Beauty brand, we are certified Vegan and Cruelty Free, meaning that our products are both kind to the skin, our environment and our animals.

Blue Beauty

Blue Beauty is similar to green beauty as they both involve using sustainable packaging in order to help the environment. However, the difference is that green beauty has a focus on sustainability in general, whilst Blue Beauty is focused on being ocean friendly.

By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than there are fish. We do our part in reducing plastic by using glass jars and recyclable cardboard to package our products.

Using sustainable packaging that can be recycled, helps to protect the oceans from harmful ingredients such as micro-beads and oxybenzone, which are found in many beauty products.

More than 70% of beauty products are made with water. We do our part in saving water by ensuring that our products provide the maximum hydration without using any water.

In addition, we love the fact that wearing any of our products will neither pollute nor add chemicals into our oceans, seas, rivers, lakes etc

So these three terms for us, are here to stay. They may get called something in the future but our core values will forever remain. We have built a brand that fits all three of these terms, bringing you products that sit on three solid pillars - Efficacy; Planet Hugging; Ethical.
